| | crushed | ] | I think sometimes I don't belong in this world.
Seriously. I've been taught all my life not to lie. It has been ingrained into my very being. And when I lied, I always ate the consequences.
Now in the work place. I'm expected to lie. "It's just a little fib." "It doesn't hurt anything."
I've fought him on it for over a year now. Well. I give up. He wins. I'll lie to every customer that calls all for the sake of "free advertising" and "making money." God forbid we have morals.
If it's no big deal. Why do I want to cry now? It's just too messed up. |

What I read in 2009
Click on the cover to see my review. I didn't read as many books as last year, and I gave up on a couple that are shown here, but I did read another bunch of long ones. I really love getting into a long book that I like, because I hate when good books end.
PULITZER PROGRESS: The Caine Mutiny and Andersonville were two long ones from the Pulitzer winners list that I never would have read if not for that list, and I really loved them. Also on the Pulitzer list were Angle of Repose and Martin Dressler, but I would have been plenty happy not having read them. I tried to read Empire Falls, but I put it down after about 80 pages because it's still too soon after having read Nobody's Fool, which is a very similar book also by Richard Russo. There are still 59 books from that list that I have yet to read. I have a few now on my shelves, and a few are short stories collections that I will probably need another lifetime to get through. There are just a few that I know I will probably never read, like the Richard Ford book because I hated the prequel, same with the remaining Updike Rabbit books, otherwise I will give most of them a chance!
YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS: Last year a few of you gave me some really great recommendations, many of which I'm still working on getting to reading! I loved The Good, Good Pig, thanks supersnackcake, but it has only made me feel terrible about eating bacon. I have not stopped eating bacon, mind you, I just feel terrible about it. I also had read The Left Hand of Darkness back in college and really wanted to re-read it, but I can't find it anywhere! I think I loaned it out and never saw it again. And there were a couple of others Tara suggested that are still on my used book store shopping list--if I find any there, then that's when I'll read them! vozeatscake also had some great suggestions that I have been on the look out for. I just put in an order at allbooks4less.com (a killer site suggestion earlier this year from boygirlparty) that includes The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, and also The Road Home by Jim Harrison, the continuation of the story in Dalva, which I read this year and loved, thanks to a recommendation from pondbluebird. After I finished that, I had to read Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee because I realized I didn't know anything about Indian history, and I got so enraged that in my sleep one night I accused Dave of becoming "as bad as the White man!"
At the end of 2008, the library by my office closed down for construction, and has been closed ever since. It sucks. There is a library near my apartment, but it's just far enough away that I have never been--the one near my office was perfect, because it got me out from behind the computer to take a walk. What that means is that I own, and still have, every single one of the books I read this year (except for Revolutionary Road, see review for the reason). I should put some more up on bookmooch, but I haven't found any of the books that I want on that site in months, because I suspect usage has dwindled. Maybe I should sell some? I am definitely out of space for books. I dream of my own library, a room in a house filled with floor-to-ceiling shelves stuffed with all the books I've read and am going to read. It's too bad that I can't hold on to all these books that I'd like to while I'm waiting, and waiting, and waiting for that room. So...what should I read next year? |

I love this idea for starting fresh in 2010! EVERYONE (EVERYONE!) gets unfriended and I will friend people back as they reply to this thread. I may not friend everyone back! Please don't be offended; I'm sure many of you understand the need for a fresh start. I want to keep the list pretty tight so I can talk freely amongst people that I feel I "know." |

Back home after Christmas holidays, the cats were eager to see us and never left us alone all day. The remaining Christmas presents for [ Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<lj-user="kirilaw'>') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.] Yesterday was terrific. Terrific!
Back home after Christmas holidays, the cats were eager to see us and never left us alone all day. The remaining Christmas presents for <lj-user="Kirilaw'> arrived, so she now has her USB Ravage (may I just say how awesome a job Takara-Tomy did on that one!) and the Skeletor t-shirt. I also finished up the Diamond set of statues with the missing Galvatron so I now have all the original releases as well as a good portion of the variants. And I received the Fan Productions add-on missile and gun set for Ultra Magnus to make him more Gee-Won! The man has four guns! Don't mess with Magnus!
Then we went to Burger King and hit the dirty Comic Book Shoppe out in Merivale, where, as Kirilaw says, I made the sound. The sound is basically an excited "meep" that I make when I see a new thang, usually a toy, that gets me all excited. In this case it was sweet Bludgeon. One in store, overpriced at $39.99, and mine now! Woot! I also finally used my winnings from the Halloween competition at the other store and grabbed the strangely alluring Movie 1 Nightwatch Optimus Prime, while loading up on recent issues of Blackest Night (man there is a lot going on there, not all of it good and I have no idea how they are going to right things again), G.I.Joe (including the "I didn't think it would be released but there it is and it is brilliant" IDW reissue of Marvel's run from 51-60 in corrected colours) and Transformers.
Segway, I liked the new Transformers issue #1's story despite the art but I didn't like #2. I liked the art in Bumblebee and the story is interesting, but Bumblebee as leader? That's something I didn't think I'd see. And I was disappointed that the badges were not flat black rub symbol plates. THAT would have been cool. Cooler than how they ended up looking. However, I love that Ratchet's head is red like the old Marvel days.
Little more shopping at Best Buy and then home, to play Raiden IV, read a pile of the comics, and watched back-to-back Season One Torchwood episodes over hummus and vegetables. I also started the repainting of my nephew's Movie 1 Legends Bumblebee, scrubbing the paint off in preparation of a transformation into Pointblank (to match the finished transformation of Legends Jazz into Nightbeat).
Today is breakfast with c-dawg so some cleaning is needed. But I couldn't wait to share the news that, the pictured noted in my <a href="http://twitter.com/fairplaythings">twitter feed</a> under consideration for online publication, was <a href="http://www.schmap.com/losangeles/toppicks_attractions/#r=none&mapview=Map&tab=Places&p=48773&topleft=35.0255,-119.10004&bottomright=32.85652,-117.55646&i=48773_97.jpg">published here as the Tar Pits link</a>. Brilliant!
Now to shower. |

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. --"Prayer" Chapter 2: To Grant

Happy Boxing Day to those who celebrate. For me/us, it's a time to go shopping. Today, we'll hit the Amish market for fat and fun. I hope to go to Target too.
Christmas was nice, if low-key. The day slipped away too fast. I didn't even get to play my Christmas gift from Hubby: Lego Indiana Jones 2 for the Wii! Ah well, when we get home I'll carve out some time from the house fixin to play. :) |

Kinda relieved this year. We had just bought our first home and moved. Thank goodness Hubby and I agreed to keep it "low key" and cheap. I'm glad it's over and now the shopping can begin again ;) |

| Best made plans |
[Dec. 25th, 2009|06:20 pm] |
As we wrap up the last day at home for the holidays, let me list the things that have gone wrong:
1. Having taken great care to get kirilaw a number of cool gifts online, I was distressed to find that they hadn't arrived in time for packing. The ravage USB drive arrived on Tuesday, and the He-Man.org battle damaged Skeletor shirt (order at end of November) arrived Wednesday. So while the cards I made as substitutes looked okay, they don't pack the same punch.
At least they are waiting for us and a certain fox girl made it through with lots of time to spare...
2. Managed to drive over a water main and tear out part of the air vent under the hood of a Crysler 300, necessitating a car change and the promise of many weeks of insurance fun.
3. Having visited three Canadian Tires in the province of Nova Scotia to find a certain recordable turntable-to-CD player combo, finally found such a beast in Yarmouth of all places, one hour from my home. Buy it. Get excellent parental reaction to said gift. And then find out that it is only a CD-R/RW PLAYER (and will not actually record records) and now must facilitate some complicated exchange since there is no Boxing Day shopping n fine N.S.
Boy do I sound like a grinch. It's been a nice holiday and many excellent gifts were purchased and received. And are yet to be gifted and received. But the first two were frustrating and the third is just upsetting.
Also, must still write and send Christmas letter. I am very late this year. And unsure on feelings about Florida and Disneyworld for Botcon. Really torn. |

| | Mary Did You Know? - Clay Aiken | ] | The flickering of firelight tilts The flame passed bringing life and light Silently within the heart then wilts Even in candlelight this night
The song is beautiful to hear The prayers are for all the world And my heart is lost in such fear As this “holiday” is unfurled
Purpose and meaning, forgotten As we erase the full meaning The one gift to us, begotten Stripped by political cleaning
Do you remember why we’re here? Do you remember the first gift? Do you know why it calms our fear? That one precious night closed the rift..
And I pray this night you recall And my heart longs for you to know Christmas is the gift to us all That’s more than presents, lights, and snow…
All of this love I have for you Is pale next to that gift for us Knowing this, let my words ring true As I wish you… Merry Christmas.

Just... wow. |
